Good guys, bad guys, accusations, beautiful language gymnastics, retention, bonuses, billions of dollars, and the threat of wealth—it’s a good old testimony, AIG CEO Edward Liddy takes the heat.
Paraphrasing ACT I
LIDDY: We’ll lose the good guys who can get us out of this mess, these are retention bonuses, we cannot afford to lose these people, these bonuses will keep them.
EVERYONE ELSE: Why are you rewarding people who got us into this mess with bonuses, bad, bad, bad boy, give it back. Show us who the bad guys are, we’re coming to get you. The American people are coming to get you.
ATTENTION LIMITED: Mr. Liddy, where will the top dogs at AIG go if they don’t get their retention bonuses? Will they actually be able to get another job? Isn’t it hard to get a job today?
ATTENTION LIMITED ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The top dogs at AIG don’t need a job, they’re filthy rich. We’re at the mercy of their wealth and their need for more.
CUOMO: Give me the names of the top few people who did this to the country!
